The exact positioning of the holes is not directly beneficial to any specific application.
Over time, different manufacturers have developed varying patterns and sizes of hole for their own DA pads and abrasives. This has largely been done to increase customer loyalty, as the only supplier of the exactly matching abrasive will have also produced the original DA pad.
The amount of dust extracted is not related to the pattern – or position of the holes – but the total area available for the dust to be extracted through.
When choosing a DA pad, it is not vital that the holes align with the abrasive exactly – but that just that enough holes are aligned to ensure an efficient amount of air can pass to remove the dust from the surface and by extension, the environment of the operator.
Key considerations when choosing the best DA pad option for any application are coarseness and grade of the abrasive, along with a correctly sized and balanced pad.
