Common challenges in polishing… And how to solve them!

We have over 40 years’ experience walking production lines and working alongside our customers – identifying where our products can deliver maximum value

Our foams and polishing products are used daily in a diverse range of industries – from car detailing and carpentry to wind turbine production.

We asked our experts for some advice on the common issues you might encounter with polishing products – and how to resolve them!

QUESTION 1: WHY DOES THE FOAM WEAR OUT SO QUICKLY?

The foam you have selected may have an unsuitable density for the application. Excessive pressure compensates for the lack of cut, resulting in premature wear.

Flexipads detailing and bodyshop foams are available in different densities, from heavy compound foam for aggressive work to ultra-soft and low density for finishing.

QUESTION 2: I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE SURFACE DEFECT (E.G. SCRATCH, OR SWIRL MARK) TAKES A LONG TIME TO DISAPPEAR WHEN POLISHING – WHY IS THIS?

The foam and polishing compound used is not abrasive enough for the application. Select a more suitable compound.

We have a broad range of compounds that have been specially developed for specific applications. Speak to one of experts to find the best solution for your application, get in touch here

QUESTION 3: SOMETIMES THE POLISHING OPERATION WILL DAMAGE THE CLEARCOAT, WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Overheating of the foam is often the cause of this issue. This can be avoided/reduced with a waffled surface or an open-cell structure for better airflow.
